GAMOSA – THE THREAD OF ASSAMESE IDENTITY

The Assamese Gamosa (or Gamusa) is a sacred, handwoven rectangular cotton cloth from Assam, featuring white fabric with red embroidered borders and motifs. It is a symbol of Assamese identity. Used in daily life and sacred ceremonies, it represents respect, purity and cultural pride. Awarded a GI Tag in 2019, it remains a timeless emblem of Assamese identity.
